One Tribe Wanderers - Jen explores Bora Bora
Bora Bora is one of those places you always hear of, as some distant paradise that isn’t actually part of this world. I was fortunate enough to get to travel to Bora Bora, where my ideas were confirmed, it is a paradise that is not actually part of this world.
The sand is so white and so soft, it is like a cloud on the ground. I love sand more than anyone I know, especially anyone relatively my age. I love sand the same way I did when I was a baby and terrified my parents by just eating handful after handful. I have grown out of that particular display of affection towards sand, but my friends still often make fun of me for playing like a dog in sand. Trying to be a relatively acceptable member of society, I try to play in the sand in ways that normal humans do, playing volleyball or frisbee or something, but then I will do crazy dives to catch the volleyball or frisbee, just to have an excuse to play in the sand. I don’t actually hide it very well.
Anyway, I have spent the majority of my life playing in New Jersey or Los Angeles sand, which is like playing in garbage and gravel in comparison to the fluffy cloud sand of Bora Bora. Needless to say, I went a bit crazy in this awesome sand. I was doing cartwheels and handstands all over the place, yoga poses,
and playing some one on one volleyball, completely for the purpose of getting to dive into the sand.
I befriended an adorable little kid, because we were clearly on the same page about how awesome sand is.
The whole Island of Bora Bora is insanely beautiful. A tropical paradise, just barely disturbed by humans. Other than some beach front property here and there, the island is mostly untouched. I went on an awesome scooter ride to explore the island. The views from higher elevations of the sparkling ocean, and beautiful white sand were astounding.
I went on a helicopter ride for the first time! And now I always want to be in a helicopter. It was such an insanely awesome experience. I felt extremely safe, and it was so fun. The views from a helicopter can not be compared to anything!!! I had a hard time choosing between photographing anything from the amazing view, and just soaking in the experience while it was happening. The pilot took the helicopter all around Bora Bora, and then flew out to a beautiful heart shaped island. I would do this again and again and again. I want to helicopter everywhere.
All in all, my time in Bora Bora was completely amazing. I had amazing adventure after amazing adventure, all while being surrounded by epic natural beauty.
